Change

For the longest time I have wanted to be involved in urban immersive mobile games; before the go game and pac Manhattan etc I toyed with some ideas and even organised a few large scale urban games but nothing was serious.

Over the last month, certain events have led me to think seriously about heading in a new direction, a direction that is very much aligned with my desires both ludic-al and intellectual .

With the mobile market in Australia maturing and micropayment systems not only available but mainstream with carriers here I believe that the time is right to dive into these opportunities and to start it up.

This year has been very busy with work, deals have progressed amazingly well both here and globally and I have been very operational in my focus and thinking. Partially, this has resulted in me focusing on my efforts on areas and external commitments other than blogging.

At the end of the year, I will have been working at/on AgentArts for 7 years!!! Its amazing to think about the journey that it has been and naturally the combination of spring renewal, an anniversary and the end of the year collide to bring my thinking to a head and indirectly to action.

My grandmother's passing a couple of months ago has left me with the financial resources to try a few things and most importantly...

Follow my dreams!

Lack of blogging
Firstly, thank you Claire for your kind words.

And welcome to all you stuffed-toy-making gingham loving button collecting freaks.

Indeed there is not much happening on my Blog at the moment. Due mainly to work on this and this and that or and that other thing. Hopefully, things will settle down soon.

Parenting
One of the newest shows to hit the Australian TV screen is Desperate Housewives, not surprises here I'm sure. Suze and I are not normally ones for the popular sitcom or type show and tend towards spy/drama shows like Alias and West Wing.

I think that the thing we find most interesting is the connection with the characters, especially the mum with 4 kids. Last night's episode saw her leaving the kids at the side of the road for being naughty in the car...something we can TOTALLY appreciate.

Anyway...its a fun show and will no doubt become a regular fave.

Still on the parenting track...there was this absolute load of bollocks in The Age yesterday, which I just totally disagree with. To use a classic quote I learnt last year...."It's not even wrong!"

The crux of the message (as I took it) was that parenting is mundane, boring and repetitive, with only 5% YES 5% of it being rewarding and fulfilling. What a load of....

My belief about parenting and for that matter everything one does in life is that it is up to the individual to make it WOW! (to steal a Tom Peters line). Doing the 9-5 for the corporate man with 5 meetings every day I would suggest can be boring. Writing status reports and issues documents mundane. Handling calls in a call centre repetitive.

It is up to you to make it interesting, fun, exciting...whatever it is that you find fulfilling.

Years ago my mother said to me "If it was fun they wouldn't call it work". This is a truism which has stuck in my mind since then and which defines the anti-vision for my life.

Sure, parenting has its repetitive bits, its boring bits and lots of bits involving partially consumed food and poo ;-) but it has so much more to offer.

Parenting has its hugely more fulfilling aspects of watching a child grow every day, being a hero and role model to your child, watching them do amazing things if you can let go, and sharing experiences with them everyday which you will treasure for ever.

When parenting becomes a chore, I suggest expanding your horizons. Look for other opportunities in which you can be a parent and meet some of your other needs. Become involved in your child's kinder, write or blog about the good aspects of parenting and share your learning experiences, take your kids to playgrounds and write them up in playground finder.

Treasure these days like no others for in 40 years time you will want nothing more than to relive them.

So its been a long time....
It seems like forever since I blogged, with Christmas, a very busy pre holiday period (you know the ones where you fit 2 weeks into 1 before you leave and the same when you get back), a holiday with the family and then back to a super busy period of work launch new services for BigPond.

In between all this, I've been focused on kicking of the fund raising and social activities for Oskar's kinder, with 10-12 hours having been spent on kinder things just this week.

And to add to it all, I'm off to America on Wednesday arvo and arrive back on Sunday morning....yep a whirlwind 4 meetings and 3 states in two nights.

So while I'm full of excuses, I'm going to try and blog every day for the rest of the month. Excuse me while I get my blog voice back and start writing some useful things.
